Application Questions
1. Three rooms from the Madonna Inn that you would want to live in and why (or that your player thinks it would be hilarious to make you live in).
Traveler's Yacht because what room is more appropriate for an actual ship captain? And I'm used to living in a space smaller than this, so that won't be an issue.
Caveman reminds me a bit of Neverland, and I am never going there again, and I definitely would not want to live in a room that reminds me of that place.
Fabulous Fifties? It doesn't seem that fabulous to me. Just look at it. And I'd have to share it with a ghost? The dead should stay that way and find someone else to bother.
2. Three items that are important to the character and why. Link to pics if you want to.
1: The buckle from Liam's satchel, which is all that remains of the satchel (and of Liam). It's a reminder of his brother, who did so much for him,and who shaped him into a better version of himself for awhile. The buckle is a connection to and a reminder of Liam. It fits in his pocket, so he could have it with him on his arrival.
2: His hook. It represents so much of what he's lost (his hand, Milah) and is a part of his ship that is always with him. It also gave him his nickname (and his reputation). It started out as a replacement for his hand, but it is a part of him now. He wears it everyday, so it's with him at his arrival.
3: The sextant that he and Liam used to get to Neverland the first time. Neverland became such an important place to him, given that he went back there again after his brother died, and it's also where he began to form better relationships with those who would eventually become his family. So the object that got him there in the first place is incredibly important to him.
3. Name three roles you could fill in the hotel or community and explain why they're qualified. Be creative and think outside the box. You're trapped, so what does everyone need that you can do?
He could teach survival skills to those who are going on expeditions - he survived on Neverland for centuries with no aid but his own wits and skill, and many other instances as well. He has experience with helping Emma as a deputy, and as such could do security work or something along those lines. Another option would be for him to be an official chronicler of the expeditions to other places, with his skills at making maps and at storytelling.
4. What are your worst character flaws? Even though he has defeated the darkness inside him by sacrificing himself, he still struggles with it, and probably always will. He's a lot better than he used to be, but when provoked or backed into a corner he can still go too far in his response. He can be quite merciless under the right circumstances.
He doesn't really know how to deal with grief, which tends to make him over-react when dealing with anger. This was evidenced when he lost his brother and instead of dealing with it, he stole a ship and turned pirate. When the woman he loved was murdered, he swore vengeance on her killer, and spent centuries trying to get it. While most events don't lead to such over-the-top consequences, he does have a bit of a problem with stifling his anger sometimes, even if that angers mostly manifests itself in words.
5. Will you go on adventures, and if so what will you do? Yes. He loves adventures, and getting to go to new places is one of the reasons he enjoyed his time at sea so much. He has learned how to adapt in new situations, and views himself as a survivor. He's not one who needs rescuing; he's one who does the rescuing. He's been to more places in canon than anyone else has, and would enjoy going to more.
6. What are your passions? His biggest passion is sailing. He hadn't chosen to become a sailor, but when his father abandoned him and his older brother, he had no choice. It went from being something he was forced to do to his way of life. It was something he shared with his brother, and now it's a connection to his brother. He got where he is now because of Liam. The sea is in his blood as much as anything else is. It's harder to indulge in when there's no ocean around, but he's got plenty of stories to share.
Another big passion for him is justice, or at least what he sees as justice (which doesn't always match up with everyone else's idea of justice). If he thinks someone has gotten the unfair end of things, he takes it on himself to right the wrong. This is why he turned pirate after Liam's death in service to the king, and why he swore revenge when Milah died. Although in more recent years, his idea of justice has become more like the traditional sense, which is why he's now helping out at the sheriff's station and working on being one of the good guys. There will probably be plenty of opportunities to be on the side of justice at the inn.
And of course there's Emma, who is the person he's more passionate about than anything else. He'd even give up the rest of it for her.
7. Name three other people you want to interact with or three things you want to do. We're taking any existing canonmates for granted, so please tell us about other possible connections you wish to build.
Moana, because she has also had sea-based adventures, and I see them getting along well
Snow White, because he knows a different version of her and would be interested in knowing how they're different
Rocket, because meeting him would be a new experience for Hook, and also because it seems like it would be hilarious
